The Grouse

Limited edition monograph, The Grouse Studies in Words and Pictures, was published in 1991 and represents the third of six publications from Fine Sporting Interests Limited. This monograph is illustrated by Richard Robjent and written by Colin McKelvie. It discusses such things as plumage, sporting tradition, territory, courtship, breeding, economics, disease and management of the Red Grouse, Ptarmigan, Black Grouse and Capercaillie. Limited to 300 copies each signed by the author and artist and containing an original sepia sketch by Richard Robjent. The first 26 special editions also contain an original watercolour by Richard Robjent.
SPECIAL EDITION

Size 10in x 12.5in; 24 coloured plates 8in x 10.5in tipped-in by hand onto plate-sunk pages and approximately 60 sepia drawings. Text of about 30,000 words. Fully bound in finest selected maroon morocco leather, with raised bands, hand sewn head bands and silk doublures, three edge gilding, 23.5 carat gold, hand tooled. Gold frames in panels with game bird in centre, pinhead design across raised bands. Game bird blocked on front and back covers. Hand finished gold frames on covers, gold tooling on board edges and cap. Full roll borders in gold on inside boards. Box in quarter bound maroon morocco with spine to match the book, with woven material sides, velvet lined and padded inside box. Apart from all copies containing an original sepia sketch, each of these 26 has tipped-in at the front an original signed watercolour by the artist Richard Robjent.

HALF BOUND EDITION

Size 10in x 12.5in; 24 coloured plates 8in x 10.5in tipped-in by hand onto plate-sunk pages and approximately 60 sepia drawings. Text of about 30,000 words. Half bound in finest selected maroon morocco leather, with raised bands, cockerel hand marbled end pages, top edge hand gilt, hand lettering, title, author, date and centre tools to spine, blocking to front and back cover and gold roll finish all in 22 carat gold leaf. Matching buckram slip-case blocked in gold for each copy. Every copy contains an original signed sepia sketch by the artist.
